Hello Everyone!
May I ask how do you compile the engine? I am on windows 10, and it seems Visual Studio 2008 not compatible with this version.

I honestly could never get it to compile. vs 2008 does work on Windows 10 but I always got a boost sdk error and after a few attempts at contacting the dev, I was offered very little assistance.

Thank you for your answer. So it seems it is not possible to expand the engine itself, nor writing new shaders? I am searching for a good open source 2D engine with dynamic lightning feature for my game, and Ethanon seems really nice and well documented. The editor is simple and straightforward, which is a really good advantage. Yet I am just following the video tutorials and documentation, and I am happy with it, so I am thinking about to choose Ethanon, but I would like to have the possibility and opportunity to write new features in the future. On the other hand, if Ethanon 2 is on the way (as the last post suggested on the main site), I won't hesitate to choose this engine:)

Well the last post is quite old, and I am not sure if an EE2 will ever see the light of day. Ethanon is a good engine, and it is functional, he maintains a newer version on github, but as I mentioned never could get it to compile.
It seems more aimed at simple mobile games, when doing a pc game, angelscript falls on its face pretty fast, I started a simple pathfinding algorithm and when it was activated fps dropped to 10 fps.
But if you are careful, you can make something pretty cool in it, it's a shame really 8-10 years ago it was unique and nothing like it, now there are so many engines that do the same thing but better, although I really like angelscript.....oh well.

Yes, I see...This is sad, because it has lots of potential. Plus (as far as I know) dynamic lightning in 2D engines is not a usual thing even today (at least not out of the box). I have no previous experience with Angelscript, but I heard something about the performance side and yes, that was not so good. However, Frictional Games (Amnesia, Penumbra, Soma) uses this scripting language for over a decade. And yes, pathfinding is maybe heavy for a scripting language (I am not an expert), and that 10 fps is not so friendly. May I ask, did you make a commercial game with this engine?

Sorry for some reason it did not send me a message from your last reply. I have not made a commercial game with it, the dev has Magic Rampage on android os, and a few other mobile games have been made, but nothing complex or major the engine is missing a lot of features that need a really good knowledge of how all that stuff works. We have a slack channel, another user and myself frequent, I have moved on to another engine, but he is fighting his way through with this one, and I am trying to help where I can.

Also as far as the 2d lighting, Unity does it, Corona SDK does it, construct does it, and many more so it's not unique anymore.
